The metacentric height is in proportion to the fatigue life of the ship structure. The difference between the corrected GM value given in the loading manual and the rule default value of different kinds of oil tankers, specially for "high-narrow" type vessel, is great. Through fatigue check on a typical panamax oil carrier of "high-narrow" type, it is found that the fatigue life of longitudinals can be improved by choosing the corrected GM value, so as to simplify the details of the structure or reduce the scantlings of the structure.
