留白指艺术创作中为使整个作品画面、章法更为协调精美而有意留下相应的空白，留有想象的空间。从艺术角度上说，留白就是以“空白”为载体进而渲染出美的意境的艺术。从应用角度上说，留白更多指一种简单、安闲的理念。“留白”被广泛用于中国绘画、陶瓷、诗词等领域中，具有很高的审美价值，达到“此处无物胜有物”的艺术效果。
