The authors briefly introduce the fundamental principle of automotive defrosting, and analyze the defrosting performance of a passenger car conditioner by CFD method. Through optimizing the duct structure design, they use the experience data of steady-state analysis to estimate the optimizing feasibility. The result of transient analysis shows that the defrosting effect satisfies the design requirement. Last, the defrosting test proves the reliability and validity of the CFD method. This measure is beneficial to the optimizing work of defrosting performance for vehicle development.
