The basic situation of rural residential develop-ment was studied since new rural construction. The problems of the traditional building models were summarized in the develop-ment of rural housing in china. The advantages of steel structure in low rise residential buildings are analyzed. Prospects for the development of new rural housing to steel structure model were forecasted.
