清人王又朴编选的《史记七篇读法》,是当时应举士子的为文指南。王氏从《史记》中精选出七篇文法尤为高超而主旨被世人误读的篇目,通过评点结合的方式将方苞的“义法”说具体运用到文章阅读中,引导读者通过了解文章作法得出文章义理。他先在独立于选文的各篇读法文章中揭示文章的儒道大旨,接着提出“一气读”“分段细读”,由大到小、有层次的阅读技巧,最后通过具有明确指示作用的随文圈点来配合读法,使其读法在文中一目了然。出于指导作文、适应时文的目的,王又朴与方苞一样执著于对文章修辞、谋篇等写作技巧的指导,因而无法揭示出《史记》博大精深的文学成就,也无法为读者提供开阔的阅读视野。

A Guide to Reading Seven Articles from Shih Chi is a book written by Wang Youpu,which was a reference book to those who were recommended to take part in the imperial examination. Wang selected sev-en articles which were well-organized as well as misunderstood from Shih Chi( Historical Records)and applied the theory of Yifa initiated by Fang Bao to teach people how to read. He started his book with comments on the reading methods,which advocated important points from Confucianism,which was then followed by detailed reading skills like“thought reading”and“close reading”,so that articles could be appreciated from general to specific. In addition,he marked words and phrases with dots or small circles where necessary,which could better show his reading instructions and hence highlighted his reading methods. In order to help candidates in the imperial examinations to write articles,he emphasized the construction and rhetoric aspects of the texts, while on the other hand,he ignored the broad and profound achievements of the Historical Records,and could not broaden readers’vision.
