重言修辞在莎剧中被大量使用,并列结构中的两个实词,或表达固定意义,或表述修饰与被修饰关系,或表示一个单一完整的概念,充分展现了语言的均衡和侧重美,揭示了戏剧人物的复杂性和多样性,深化了戏剧主题.同时,重言形义分离,容易构成语义认知的障碍,往往造成误译.文章尝试分析《哈姆雷特》和《奥赛罗》重言修辞的结构和语义,通过分析现有译本探究重言的翻译.

Hendiadys is a figure of speech in which two substantives connected by a conjunction are used to express a single complex notion.Shakespeare' s hendiadys is more flexible, and he uses it freely and frequently in Hamlet and Othello, which makes his plays more expressive and displays the language to its extreme beauty.However, hendiadys easily causes difficulties in the understanding of semantic relation owing to its separated form and meaning, thus causing mistranslation.This paper attempts to analyze the hendiadys in Hamlet and Othelloand make comparisons among its different Chinese translations.
