The research advances in the conversion technology of heavy aromatics to light ones were reviewed,especially including the technologies of catalytic hydrodealkylation,transalkylation and selective ring open. The dealkylation catalysts including metal,metal oxides and molecular sieve catalysts and the catalysts for aromatics selective ring-opening were introduced in detail. The advantages and shortcomings of noble metal catalysts and non-noble metal catalysts for selective ring-opening were analyzed. According to the characteristics of the monocylic aromatics and dicyclo aromatics,heavy aromatics should be selectively separated by effective adsorbents. The high efficiency utilization of heavy aromatics could be obtained by combination processes and separation technologies of monocylic aromatics and dicyclo aromatics.
