The application of BIM technology is in its starting period in China leading to lack of relevant research results. The rapid development of high-speed railway makes higher requirements for construction duration, quality and technology of the project, which can be solved by BIM technology. The concept and advantages of BIM as well as its application status are stated in the paper. A novel technological route of tunnel design is proposed in terms of model architecture design, model parametric design, collision check, two-dimensional drawing and so on. Taking a practical railway tunnel project as a case, the whole process of BIM application in railway tunnel design based on CATIA is introduced. The paper aims at providing technical ideas and theoretical reference for the application of BIM in railway industry.
