Energy storage technology is the key to sustainable development of energy. It can be used in power system, transportation, industrial process and so on. In this paper, existing energy storage technologies are discussed, including pumped hydro energy storage, compressed air energy storage, flywheel energy storage, battery energy storage, flow battery energy storage, superconducting magnetic energy storage, super capacitor energy storage, hydrogen energy storage and thermal energy storage. Then their technical characteristics and cost are compared.
