文章比较了中英两国城市更新名词概念提出的背景，分析了英国城市发展过程中产生的概念名词urban renewal ，urban regeneration ，urban renaissance与三个中文翻译词汇间的差异，重新定义了中文城市更新、城市再生、城市复兴的范围和意义，以期对中国城市化过程具有相应的理论指导意义，进而有助于推动中国城市化进程。

This paper compares the proposition background of the concept of urban renewal in China and Britain ,and analyzes the distinction between the three terms ,i .e .urban renewal ,urban regener‐ation and urban renaissance created during the process of British urban development and three transla‐ted Chinese terms .The range and meaning of the three translated Chinese terms are redefined .This study may provide a reference for Chinese urbanization as well as speed up the process of urbanization in C hina .
