随着儒学复兴运动的开展,“现代新儒学”概念的所指也正在扩展。在现代新儒学内部有不同的“道统”说,突破类似家谱的“道统”观念,可以把现代新儒学的总体特征归结为在回应和融摄西方文化的过程中,形成在经典世界有所根据而又适应现时代需求、希望能够对治现代生活的理论。其历史的起点可以追溯至以康有为等为代表的清末儒家精英集团的分化。而其现实则是:随着社会历史条件的变化包括激进主义的兴衰,曾经是防御性的方位性意识形态的儒学,开始表现出改变现实的激进姿态,因而也使得现代新儒学的思想光谱大为改观。

With the revival of Confucianism,the reference of the concept of “Modern Neo-Confucian-ism”is also being expanded.Within “Modern Neo-Confucianism”,there exist different concepts of“orthodoxy”.If we break through the concept of “orthodoxy”,which is similar to genealogy,the general characteristics of the Modern Neo-Confucianism could come down to a theory that forms during the process responding to and assimilating western culture.Based on the classical world and capable of adapting to the needs of the present age,it can be expected to cope with the conditions of modern life.The starting point of its history can be traced back to the differentiation of Confucian elite group that is represented by Kang Youwei in the Late Qing Dynasty.However,it turns out that with the changes of social and historical conditions,including the rise and fall of radicalism,Confucianism, which used to be a defensive and orientational ideology,begins to show its radical attitude to changing the reality, thus giving rise to a vastly different ideological spectrum of “Modern Neo-Confuci-anism”.
