This paper introduces a kind of reactive power compensation device, magnetic control reactor (MCR) type in Xinjiang Hutubi traction substation. In this paper, Paralleled magnetic circuit and self-shielded magnetic flux leakage type controlled reactor is actually an improvement of the magnetic valve type controlled reactor, and it has the advantages of fast and continuous reactive power adjustment, low noise, low loss, and wide range for the overload ability, etc. Measurement data show that, since the device has been put into operation, the power factor of the traction substation has improved from 0.8 to 0.99.
