中国是一个诗的国度,亦有许多叙事作品.若以西方叙事诗标准来衡量,其又鲜有合规者.中国叙事诗不强调对某一事件或某一人物的记述,而重在关注整个社会历史发展进程和特征,不注重客观的叙述,而倾向于主观感受的抒发,自《诗经》"陈诗观风"的功能基调以来,形成了独立而强大的"诗史"传统.以此传统构筑中国叙事诗的评价体系,近代叙事诗的意义就不言而喻了.其不仅全面展现了近代风云变幻的社会历史,总结了中国古典诗歌的叙事艺术,而且是现代叙事诗的滥觞和源头,地位和价值不容忽视.

China is a country of poetry, and there are many narratives. But the vast majority of them do not meet the standards of Western narrative poems. Chinese narrative poems do not emphasize the account of a certain event or a certain person, and focus attention on the development process and characteristics of social history. And they do not pay attention to the objective narrative, but tend to express subjective feelings. Narrative poems of China forms an independent and powerful"Poetic History"tradition. If we use this tradition to build the evaluation sys-tem of Chinese narrative poems, we will find the important status and value of modern narrative poetry.
