选取马修·阿诺德的诗篇《多佛海滩》的两个中译版本，以“文化与文明”传统为研究视角，比较中译本的差异，分析阿诺德对文化与通俗文化的独特解读视角及其思想在诗句中的体现，意在唤起读者对当时及现代社会精神生活的关注。

Two Chinese versions of Dover Beach were choosen to make a comparative study on them from the perspective of Matthew Arnold′s culture and civilization tradition.Through introducing Arnold′s u-nique angle of view on popular culture and his thoughts revealed in the poem,it aimed at arousing read-ers′attention in this paper toward the mental lives of the society then and now.
