A pharmaceutical enterprise mainly produces antibiotics, penicillin, erythromycin and other drugs with wastewater quantity of 10 000 t/d. In view of the characteristics of the said pharmaceutical wastewater such as high organic matter and ammonia nitrogen concentration, and complicated component, a combined pro-cess of hydrolytic acidification-CASS-one stage BAF-Fenton-two stage BAF was adopted for its treatment. The engineering practice showed that, through the treatment, the effluent water quality met the requirement of level A grade 1 in GB18918-2002 Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant. The process design and commissioning and operation of the project were introduced, besides, the design parameters of the main structures were pointed out.
