以批评话语分析为视角，综合运用费尔克劳的三维模式和马丁的评价理论，对发表在美国和南非主流媒体上关于孔子学院的20篇新闻报道中的评价资源进行批评性分析，旨在揭示美国和南非主流媒体在报道孔子学院时所持的态度以及形成这种态度的社会因素。研究发现，美国媒体主要呈负面态度而南非媒体主要呈正面态度，并且他们的态度与政治、经济、文化等社会因素密切相关。基于上述研究，进一步探讨了孔子学院在发展中所面临的机遇和遇到的问题，并针对问题尝试性地提出一些对策以期有助于孔子学院更好地发展。

With the combination of Fairclough′s three-dimensional framework and Martin′s appraisal theo-ry,it conducted a critical study of the evaluative resources in news reports concerning Confucius Institute with the aim to find out the attitudes towards Confucius Institute held by American and South African media as well as the social factors against which the attitudes are formulated in this paper.Twenty pieces of news reports are collected as samples from both American and South African mainstream media.It showed that in these selected reports,more negative evaluative resources are employed by American media while more positive evaluative resources are employed by South African media, and their attitudes are closely related to political,economical and cultural factors.Based on the above,it explored the opportuni-ties and problems Confucius Institute is facing in its development in this paper.Furthermore,some sugges-tions for the solutions to the problems are put forward in the hope of promoting the development of Confu-cius Institute.
