Fuel cell technology is attracting more attention in R&D and product commercialization. Proton exchange membrane ( PEM) , the key component of fuel cell stack, plays an important role in lowering cost, improving performance and extending lifetime of fuel cell system. In this paper, PEM with single component and composite structure are reviewed in terms of their composition, performance and fabrication methods. The recent R&D results associated with PEM"s key technical issues are summarized as well.
