曾运乾在汉语上古声纽、韵部，中古声纽等方面的研究均取得了巨大的成绩。这些成绩与他具有进步的音韵学思想和正确的方法论密不可分。其音韵学思想表现为具有历史发展的观点和系统论思想；其研究古音在方法论上则兼用了考古和审音两种方法。

Zeng Yunqian had achieved great success in initials, rhyme group of ancient time sand initials of medieval times. His important achievements in phonology are inseparable from progressive phonology ideology and correct methodology. The view of historical development and System theory are concrete manifestation of his phonology ideology. Studies have also shown that ZengYunqian had used two methods such as sound archaeological and trial to study ancient sound.
