With the arrival of the high-speed rail era and rapid urban expansion, the integrated development of railway terminal areas and urban functionalities are faced with new opportunities and challenges. Based on the extension of the node-place model, this paper discusses the reconstruction of traffic flow, reorganiza-tion of functional places, and the development trend of three types of regions. The paper applies the model in the empirical study, which analyzes the relationships between new railway terminals, existing railway terminals and city centers, and further discusses how to balance node and place functionalities between rail-way terminals and city centers. The paper proposes to elevate the place functionalities of railway terminals through passenger growing and long-distance transport mitigation and to enhance the node functions of ex-isting city centers through integration and direct accessibility. Meanwhile, the paper emphasizes improving both the node and place functionalities of new railway terminals so as to realize the node-place balance be-tween railway terminals and city centers.
