An intermediate frequency(IF)unit of single-channel adjustable attenuation applied to satellite communication was designed and developed. The design requirements and integral structure of the system are described,and the working principle and realization method of the main hardware components(program controlled attenuation module,6 dB gain amplifier, working condition monitoring circuit and logic control circuit) are introduced in detail. This design solved the problem that the working mode of current IF unit influences on the communication service quality,reduced the risk of internal interference,and improved the guarantee capability of the task. The test results indicate that the system is comply with the design requirements.
