国内在使用通识教育概念时,往往指向英文语境中的General Education(译为通识教育),而忽视了西方通识教育理念的另一面相Liberal Education (自由教育)。从西文语境的历史渊源来看,Liberal Education是根基、本源、灵魂,而General Education则是Liberal Education在现代社会中的一种适应版本。二者在意涵上相辅相成,互相诠释。国内高校在引入通识教育理念时,往往忽视Liberal Education的内涵与特征。大学通识教育的核心目标应是自由教育精神和内涵的实现。真正的通识教育,会更为关注学生自我生命的成长和内在精神的繁盛,而这是一切创造性能力的根源所在。

In China Mainland, the concept of General Education is always point to the same words in English, with the ignorance of the other face of the Western General Education, which is Liberal Education. In English context, Liberal Education is the root, the origin, the soul. The General Education is an adaption edition of the Liberal Education. The two ideas are inseparably interconnected and mutual interpretation. But in Chinese universities and colleges are very easy to neglect the Liberal Education Face when they try to implant General Education. They couldn't understand well that the Liberal Education is the spirit and the key of General Education. Only under the spirit of Liberal Education, the inner life of students can be fostered and the creativity can be inspired.
