生态思想在风景园林领域的重要性不言而喻，各种生态规划设计的方法也应运而生。然而这些生态方法背后的价值和文化倾向却不尽相同，导致风景园林师在面对具体的生态方法时产生困惑。选取了风景园林领域生态思想的两位先行者——伊恩?麦克哈格与约翰?西蒙兹进行比较研究，以其早年经历为切入点，分析总结他们实践方式和认知途径的差异，并阐述他们思想的源与流，以期为困惑提供标度。同时，对西蒙兹生态思想的溯源，也有利于在生态背景下保持对中国传统文化的自觉性。

The importance of ecological ideas in the field of landscape architecture is self-evident, and then various methods for ecological planning and design also arise. However, value and cultural orientation over these ecological methods is different, which speaks for the emergence of widespread confusion baffling the landscape architects when various contradictions have to be measured under the background of ecology. This article takes a comparative study on the ideas of two pioneer scholars Ian L.McHarg and John O. Simonds in the ecological landscape architecture field. The life experience of both scholars wil be shared at the very beginning, fol owed by the analysis of their differences in practices and cognitive concept, along with an elaboration of their origin and inspiration, hopeful y could help to understand the confusion mentioned above. Meanwhile, the research on the origin of John O. Simonds’s ecological thought wil also contribute to raise awareness of keeping our traditional Chinese cultural consciousness under the background of ecology.
