The virtual simulation technology uses the computer simulation to reproduce the essence processes in the real sys-tem, which is immersive, interactive, illusion and verisimilitude, etc. The virtual simulation technology in water conservancy projects is an important expressive means in the water resources informatization field. Aiming at the application of the technology in the water conservancy projects, the research on integrating, secondary developing and function expansion of the existing 3D software are carried out, so the functional simulation and visual simulation of water conservancy projects are realized. The appli-cations in survey and design, operation and management, flood control and scheduling of the water conservancy projects are de-scribed combining with some practical cases, and the application prospects of the technology in water conservancy projects are discussed.
