脏器或组织经身体正常或不正常的腔隙或薄弱处突出或移位称疝。疝可发生在身体任何部位，但以腹外疝最常见。腹腔内容物经腹壁裂隙或缺损或薄弱区突出到皮下形成可复性或不可复性包块称为腹外疝(又称腹壁疝)腹外疝包括腹股沟疝、股疝、脐疝、白线疝、半月疝、切口疝、造瘘疝等，但以腹股沟疝最常见，并被老百姓称为“小肠串气”。
