Formation, development and applications of the macrocyclic chemistry were introduced. Three parts in the macrocyclic chemistry were discussed, including synthesis and application of new pillararenes, synthesis and application of new macrocyclic polyamines and their derivatives, synthesis and application of new rotaxane compounds. At last, future development of the macrocyclic chemistry was prospected.
