Prof. Zou Ben - gui experiences were introduced in the pattern differentiation and treat-ment determination of knee osteoarthritis(KOA)in the paper. Using the four diagnostic methods of TCM,the disease was differentiated as blockage by wind,cold and damp,stagnation in tendons,yang deficiency and cold stagnation,and liver and kidney yin deficiency. The empirical formulas of five categories were adopted accordingly and the method as“detecting the pattern by the formula”was used in 100 cases of KOA in Shanxi region. Based on the clinical experiences and the frequency statistical analysis,it was found that the propor-tions of yang deficiency and cold stagnation pattern and liver and kidney yin deficiency pattern were very high,and those of blockage by wind,cold and damp and stagnation in tendons were rather low. It was conclu-ded:Prof. Zou applied the clinical experiences to the pattern differentiation and treatment determination to KOA. The satisfactory clinical efficacy on KOA and the etiology were closely related with the body constitu-tion,gender and living situation,embodying the thinking views as different treatments for the same disorder, seeking the root in treatment and applying the treatment based on the individual reasons.
