Four basic operations of mathematical morphology as follows were introduced in binary, gray-scale and colored morphology:Erosion, Dilation, Opening and Closing. The functions of these basic operations were verified by experiments. The principles and methods of extracting structure elements were analyzed and the main application of morphology operations in face recognition preprocessing was discussed.
