司马迁尊崇孟子，最早为他立传，视其为孔子之道的真正传人。他接受和发扬孟子的义利观，通过具体的历史事件对其加以诠释。司马迁阐发了孟子所理解的孔子作《春秋》的几个原则，并运用于《史记》创作。《史记》“实录”精神正与孔子《春秋》褒善贬恶的精神一脉相承。
사마천존숭맹자，최조위타립전，시기위공자지도적진정전인。타접수화발양맹자적의리관，통과구체적역사사건대기가이전석。사마천천발료맹자소리해적공자작《춘추》적궤개원칙，병운용우《사기》창작。《사기》“실록”정신정여공자《춘추》포선폄악적정신일맥상승。
Sima Qian respected Mencius and wrote biography of Mencius .He regarded Mencius as a de-scendant of Confucius .He accepted and developed Mencius ’ views on righteousness and benefit which were embedded in historical events .Sima Qian expounded and applied several principles which were understood by Mencius, and used by Confucius when he wrote Spring and Autumn Annals.The spirit of true record in Shihchi and the spirit in Spring and Autumn Annals are of the same strain .
