明清时期,云南经济社会有了较大的发展,边疆民族地区也得到进一步开发。由于明清统治者的重视和积极经营,云南边疆民族地区书院教育得到了很大的发展。至明末,云南全省已有书院65所,但主要集中在腹里发达地区。至清朝后,书院的设置几乎遍布云南各县,在空间的分布上与明代相比有较大的拓展。从总体上来看,明清时期云南书院的分布的不平衡性特征突出,折射出地方经济社会基础与文化教育的内在密切关系。书院教育的发展,传播了内地儒家文化,增强了云南边疆民族的文化认同感,对边疆的稳定具有重要意义。

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the social economy was developed greatly in Yunnan province and the frontier ethnic areas were developed further.Because of more attention and positive management from the contemporary central government,the educa-tion of academy in the frontier ethnic areas in Yunnan was pushed forward greatly.Till the end of the Qing dynasty,the academies spread almost all of the counties in Yunnan and the spatial distribution was enlarged wider than that of the Ming dynasty.Generally speaking,the obvious imbalance of the distribution of the academies in the Ming and Qing dynasties reflected the close inner relationship between the local economic and social fundament and the cultural education.The development of the academies is significant for the sta-bility of the frontier areas by transporting the Confucian culture and strengthening the cultural identity from the ethnic groups.
