America is an earlier country for rail trail construction all over the world,and has developed the rail trails system. With review of development history of the American rail trails ,the paper presents the types of rail trails and analyzes the administrative organizations and management measures of American rail trails ,and puts forward some suggestions on the construction of our national rail trails from the perspective of necessity of rail trail construction,standardization of rail trail management,and sustainability of rail trail operation.
