Learner autonomy is an essential ability that language learners must possess in a learner-centered classroom. The paper discusses the necessity of promoting learner autonomy in English language teaching (ELT) and suggests some means of implementing learner autonomy in language teaching. It is hoped that more concern and efforts will be put in cultivating and reinforcing learner autonomy among students so as to enable them to be independent and autonomous in their English learning, improve their language learning efficiency to achieve the best English learning effect and even benefit for a life long time.
