Color words almost exist in any language in the world. However, the connotation of color words obviously varies from one language to another because of the language habits, historical background, traditional customs, geographical surroundings, national psychology, and other factors.Being as a basic color word, color red' s different semantic meanings of Chinese and English may also lead to the people' s different comprehension to the metaphoric and pragmatic meaning. In this paper, a comparison of the extended and abstract meaning of Chinese and English color red is given, and also a brief analysis of the reasons is given.
