The author took the building as a special kind of “discourse” and analyzed it from the perspective of multi-mo- dal, deconstructing the various elements and exploring the enc- oding and decoding process of architectural symbols. By the multi-modal discourse analysis method, this paper analyzed the function of the Chinese classical garden architectures.
