通过对云南省4个少数民族聚居地-石林彝族自治县、西双版纳傣族自治州、楚雄彝族自治州和临沧地区20所城乡中学共180名英语教师的问卷调查及访谈,认真分析和讨论了目前云南省少数民族地区中学英语教师的教学和科研现状,调查结果表明:云南省少数民族地区中学英语教学虽取得了一定的成绩,但总体来说教学与科研现状不容乐观,主要存在的问题是:(1)教师性别、年龄、职称等结构不合理;(2)教师专业知识以及文化基础薄弱,教学辅助手段过时;(3)学校重视英语教学,但是教师积极性差;(4)教师的科研意识欠缺,科研能力与水平薄弱.在此基础上,提出相应的解决办法.

Based on the questionnaires and interviews conducted on the total 180 English teachers, working separately in 20 city and town middle schools respectively under the jurisdiction of the Stone Forest Yi Autonomous County, the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, the Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture and the Lincang Prefecture, these four regions being characterized by the dense population of ethnic minority people, objective analyses in serious discussions have been made of the current situations where those teachers teach English and do research work. The following is revealed: Some progress has been made in their English teaching, but on the whole teaching and researching as they are, are not to be assessed as up to standard, with the major disadvantages existing as these: the unbalanced distribution of the gender and age and professional title in the ranks of teachers; the overall weak foundation of their professional and cultural knowledge and out-of-date teaching auxiliary aids;the low level of teachers' initiative even with schools' emphases on English teaching;and the lack of research awareness and research capability on the part of teachers. Therefore, the author proposed some suggestions.
